Flexible Wedding Photography From 1–4 Hours
Looking for a professional wedding photographer for just 1, 2, 3 or 4 hours? I specialise in short weddings, register office ceremonies, micro-weddings and intimate celebrations across London. I’ve photographed 700+ weddings, about three-quarters of them shorter celebrations, so I have plenty of experience making the most of limited photography time.
Whether you need me for the ceremony alone or want arrivals, confetti, family photographs, couple portraits, and the start of your reception covered too, you can book exactly the coverage you need.
Coverage starts from 1 hour at £450.

This couple booked me for just one hour at their London wedding at Brompton Oratory. This was unusual for a church wedding, but I was delighted to accommodate. In the end, I photographed their day for an hour and a half to allow for group photos after the ceremony.
What is Short Wedding Photography?
Short wedding photography captures the important moments without needing a photographer for the entire day. I offer flexible coverage from 1–4 hours, or longer if needed, whether you’re planning a small, intimate ceremony or a larger celebration. It’s especially popular for register office weddings and micro-weddings, but it works for any guest list size.
I love photographing weddings of all sizes, but there’s something particularly special about celebrations shared with just a handful of close family and friends. I’ve photographed many one-hour weddings with only the couple and their witnesses present, and these have often been among the loveliest occasions I’ve experienced. I’ve even had the privilege of acting as a witness myself.
Couples and guests at short weddings often feel a lot more relaxed. In this photo, the father and daughter are so caught up in the occasion that they don’t think about me photographing them.
Brides and grooms often comment on how personal and emotive my wedding photographs seem, with a unique personal touch. This reflects how easy-going and joyful short, register office marriages usually are.

How Much Wedding Photography Do You Need for a Short Civil Marriage?

Typical Short Wedding Photography Timings
**How you use the time is up to you, but below are examples of how your day might run…**
1 Hour Photography Coverage:
Starting about 20 minutes before the ceremony lets me capture scene-setting and arrival shots at the venue and, importantly, your arrival. If you have a civil marriage (at a register office, hotel or other non-religious premises), your ceremony takes around 20 minutes, including the signing. Then there’s still ample time for a confetti sequence (where allowed) and group portraits outside.
1.5 Hours Photography Coverage:
One and a half hours allows more time on either side of the ceremony. It could start at your preparation venue (if it’s not too far) for a few photos of you leaving, and you may have time for extended couple shots after the ceremony. If everything is nearby, your photographer could document your arrival and toast with drinks at your reception venue! This works particularly well in London, where ceremony and reception venues are often close together.
2 Hours Photography Coverage:
More time for preparations and/or a photo shoot before you arrive at your venue. Or a longer couples portrait session afterwards, and more time for your drinks/meal. Or any combination of the above!
3 Hours Photography Coverage:
Three hours gives enough time for preparations before the ceremony, followed by arrivals, the ceremony, confetti, group photographs, and couple portraits. Alternatively, I can start at the ceremony and stay longer into the drinks reception.
4 Hours Photography Coverage:
Four hours allows much more flexibility. I can usually photograph some preparations and photos of you as a couple, or individually, where you get ready (often a hotel or hired apartment). Then I travel to the venue for arrivals, the ceremony, confetti, group and couple portraits, followed by a good part of the drinks reception or meal. Depending on your timing, we may also include speeches.
I’ve never seen this much confetti in one wedding photo. It was a short wedding at Chelsea Old Town Hall, but they certainly made the most of the couple’s exit!

Top Short Wedding Photography Tip:
When choosing your wedding photographer, don’t go for the cheapest quote; pick the one that resonates most with you.
Many wedding photographers are cheap, but this is one area where you get what you pay for. In the years to come, you won’t remember paying a bit more, but you will remember mediocre photographs. So if wedding photography is essential to you, don’t compromise!
Of course, if the photographer you like is reasonably priced, then that’s a happy bonus! Research thoroughly, and you’ll find the perfect wedding photographer!
Remember, you’ll treasure your photographs for the rest of your lives… But only if they are good!

- Communicate with Your Venue Contact: Every venue has different rules and regulations for photographers. Talk to your venue contact and let them know photography matters to you. Find out exactly what they allow. Your photographer may have worked at your venue before and can offer valuable tips.
- Break with Tradition: There are no hard-and-fast rules for organising your day. Short weddings allow you to throw tradition out the window and do things your way! For instance…
- …Change the Running Order: If your photographer covers your drinks reception and/or the early part of the meal, bring the speeches forward to shorten the photographic day. Heartfelt speeches are a lovely wedding memory!

- Plan a Weekday Wedding: Weekdays or out-of-season weddings are likely to be quieter at wedding venues, with less chance of being rushed. You might also get better deals, as suppliers and venues sometimes offer reduced rates!
- Don’t Be Afraid to Think Small: Don’t feel obliged to invite many guests to your short wedding. I’ve photographed weddings so small that I was a witness, and they were equally meaningful.
- Spend the Whole Day Together: No one says you must spend the morning apart. Many couples now choose to get ready together as part of a shared wedding-day experience.

- The Wedding Day is Yours: Many couples have told me that a well-meaning relative has taken over their short wedding planning. Remember, it is your day, so do everything the way you want. Of course, some couples enjoy the family organising everything, so that’s fine, too.
- Ensure Your Photographer is Flexible: You might misjudge how much time you need. Find out what happens if you need more photography time on the day. I’m very flexible and can add more time if you need it.
- More is More: Each register office usually offers packages ranging from basic to more extensive, featuring readings, music, and a more personal touch. If your budget allows, pick as much as you can. The more you have going on in a limited time, the more images you should receive of your short wedding day.

Couples booking a photographer for their reduced-hour wedding want an excellent natural record of their day. Marcin and Shweta only needed me for 1 hour, but even one guest throwing confetti can create a fun, dynamic image.

Sometimes shorter weddings include the meal and speeches. Some couples bring their speeches forward to accommodate photography. The time from pre-ceremony arrivals through to the speeches is around 5-6 hours. This summer wedding took place in Richmond, near London.
Short Wedding Photography for Senior Couples
Other couples who need less wedding coverage may be more mature, having married before.
The day matters as much to them as it did the first time, so they want a good photographer. They don’t need all the trimmings of a church wedding or full-day celebrations. A register office ceremony and intimate meal with loved ones mean much more to them than a lavish ‘do’.
Mature couples often book me for just 1 hour to photograph the ceremony and a few posed shots. They usually take place mid-week or out of season, so I’m happy to accommodate these shorter days when possible.
Micro weddings often allow you to capture more intimate moments. Fewer guests and the day’s relaxed nature made for fantastic shots, like this short wedding at Islington Town Hall in North London.

Can I Book a Wedding Photographer for Just One Hour?
Yes. I offer wedding photography in London from just one hour. Many photographers refuse to take short weddings for fear of having to turn down full days. I feel they are missing out, and I am happy to take weddings from one hour upwards, any day of the week or time of year.
Early in my photography career, I realised I was missing out by concentrating more on full days. Couples often contacted me needing just an hour, so I added it to my pricing. These days, the majority of my weddings are 1 or 2 hours.
Don’t hesitate to contact me if you need just one hour of coverage or ceremony-only photography.
An hour may suit couples who need to book their wedding photographer at the last minute or have a mid-week ceremony. But please inquire about any day or time of year; I would love to help!
At weddings as short as 2 hours, I often get to visit the reception venue with the couple. I can take portraits and natural photos during the pre-meal drinks, then let you enjoy the rest of the day.
Short Wedding Day FAQs
How many photographs will we receive from a short wedding?
The number varies depending on the length and type of wedding, but I don’t limit how many photographs you receive. I provide the best images from the day, fully edited in a mix of colour and black and white. As a rough guide, couples often receive around 200 images per hour, although this varies.
Do you approach shorter weddings differently than full-day weddings in how you photograph them?
No, absolutely not. I plan for both in the same way. The key moments are the same, and capturing everything that goes on is crucial. However, I know the couple will receive fewer photos, so it’s even more important to capture as many moments and memories as possible.
What do you love most about shooting a short wedding?
I love so much about them. I tend to be more involved with the couple and get to know them (and the guests) better by the end of the day. I can focus more on the individuals present without worrying about whether I’ve photographed everyone.
Do you restrict your reduced-hours wedding bookings during the busy summer season?
No, not at all. Many photographers don’t take short weekend weddings over the summer, but I think it’s a shame not to. My bookings are first-come, first-served!
What if we need more time on the day?
If you decide you need more time than you booked, I can stay on. I always check in with couples at the end of the day to make sure I’ve covered everything they need and to see if they want me to stay on to photograph more. Conversely, if you decide you need less time than you’ve booked, I’m happy to accommodate and will adjust your invoice accordingly.
How far in advance can we book a 1-4 hour wedding?
As far in advance as you like. I’ve had a couple book a 2-hour wedding 18 months in advance before. Popular dates can book well in advance, so if you like my style and approach, it’s worth getting in touch as early as you can.
Do you charge extra for travel to weddings in London?
No. My short wedding prices are what you will pay, with no hidden extras. Travel is included in the price – I pride myself on being fair and upfront. The only extra cost would be if you ask me to stay beyond your booked coverage time.
