Wedding Photography at the New House Country Hotel, Cardiff

The New House Country Hotel is in a beautiful rural location at the foot of Caerphilly Mountain and perfect for your wedding portraits.
The New House Country Hotel is perfectly located between Cardiff and Caerphilly. Overlooking miles of beautiful South Valleys countryside, it boasts original Georgian features and is perfect for weddings of any size. Cue some stunning wedding photography…

The fountain makes a lovely focal point in the seating area outside the stunning Georgian facade.
Initially built in the 1730s by a wealthy Welsh industrialist, the New House Country Hotel is now Grade II listed and thoughtfully decorated throughout. There are three wedding spaces catering for minimal and intimate days up to marriage parties of 250 guests.

The New House allows wedding confetti throwing outside, and the wedding planner actively helps the wedding photographer organise this and other key photo ops…

Emma and Alex arrive outside the New House Country Hotel by Rolls-Royce. They had their wedding ceremony at St Martin’s Church in Caerphilly.

The hotel management and staff are super attentive and keen for the happy couple to have the best experience. Here, the couple are escorted from the wedding car by an umbrella. South Wales is notorious for its rainy climate.

I love taking fun wedding shots: Just after the previous photograph, I noticed this trio in the background arriving with their luggage. Usually, that wouldn’t be worthy of note, but it’s quite funny at a wedding.

Back with the wedding couple: A story-telling arrival shot like this as they enter the New House Country Hotel helps to tell the day’s pictorial story.
New House Country Hotel Wedding Photography Rooms

The Garden Marquee is a large space, catering for 200 wedding guests.
The Wyndham Suite: With seating for up to 250 guests, the Wyndham is the largest wedding room situated on the first floor. It has a private bar and terrace with spectacular views.
The Georgian: The smallest of the wedding spaces with capacity for 50 guests. It boasts original Georgian features and a private patio for when the weather is fine.
The Garden Marquee: Perfect for summer weddings, the marquee holds 200 guests. With stunning views across the countryside towards Cardiff, it has its terrace and private bar with a seating area. The colour scheme is light and neutral – perfect for wedding photography!

A first dance in the Garden Marquee: The dance floor has a black ‘ceiling’ covering which looks fantastic and in summer, can make the area look darker than it is.

A captivating view towards Cardiff, taken from the terrace outside the marquee.

The Garden Marquee’s outside terrace: Although this wedding was a little rainy, the area is perfect for drinks outside in fine weather. The marquee extends a lot further than you can see here.
New House Country Hotel and Your Wedding Photographer
The hotel supplies a dedicated wedding planner to liaise with and help the couple throughout the planning and on the day itself. From your photographer’s point of view, this is a real boon, as it gives them a good point of contact who is always helpful and keen to see that everything runs as smoothly as possible, including with your wedding photos.

Inside the New House’s central part: Lounge areas are very conducive to guests sitting and chatting, and there are many nooks and seating arrangements for diverse natural photography.

I took this impromptu portrait in the lounge. The groom and guests were chatting in this formation – I didn’t pose it at all!

The large windows at the front, provide natural light for this fun photo as the groom interacts with a young wedding guest.

The bride’s mum and another guest admire the groom’s ring at the drink’s reception in the lounge.

Of course, you can also have drinks outside – even if it is raining!

Group hug! Bride Emma gets a congratulatory hug from two happy guests.

I’m always on the lookout for shots that aren’t directly wedding related – the smallest thing can mean the world in years to come.
Signing the Register – Cardiff Registrar Rules
The Cardiff Registrars are a little more strict than some – but lovely with it! They are ‘photographer-friendly’ but don’t like a lot of movement during the ceremony. I always try to approach them first to introduce myself and reassure them that I will be discreet throughout.
In common with many counties and boroughs, they don’t allow photography of the signing but set up a ‘dummy’ register afterwards for some posed shots.

The best time for the group shots during most weddings is as soon after the ceremony as possible during the early part of the drinks’ reception. It minimises distraction and restless guests.
The New House Country Hotel Wedding Breakfast
A wedding at the New House Country Hotel is seamless and at no time is this more apparent than during that transition time from drinks and canapes to the main meal. Your wedding planner is on hand throughout and communicates the running of things with the photographer, ensuring they have captured everything they need every step of the way.

Two Pints and a Little Baby: New House guests make the short journey to the Garden Marquee through this door.

As their guests applaud them, the newly-weds make their entrance to their wedding breakfast.

Their Top Table was linear and to the right of the room. How you have your tables’ layout is primarily up to you, and the New House Country Hotel management are happy to listen to your ideas.

Your photographer will probably have their meal break whilst you’re eating. I always stay on hand to capture anything that happens, such as this selfie shot.

As with most weddings, the cake is an essential feature at the New House. The cake cutting is typically held just before the first dance.

One of my more unusual wedding shots as the bride and a young guest make early use of the dance floor.

The time later in the evening when the alcohol has been flowing for a while produces some of the most fun wedding photography.

The newly-weds take to the dance floor for their first dance: The ‘starry’ curtain above makes things a lot more atmospheric despite it still being daylight outside.

An intimate moment: The couple sneak in a kiss whilst the disco lights provide exciting effects and lens flare.

This shot shows the DJ’s booth and lighting set up in the corner.

I try to photograph the first dance from many angles. The guests watching in the background give this photo good context.

Boogie on Down: Emma has a little dance with herself. I’ve no idea where Alex had got to, but happily, he soon turned up!
